Air Arabia has taken delivery of the first of 44 A320 aircraft it had ordered from Airbus.

The order for the A320s, of which 34 were placed in 2007 and ten placed in 2008, will make the carrier one of the region’s largest A320 operators.

Air Arabia chairman Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani said that the A320s will enable the company to expand its network and operations in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

The aircraft can carry up to 180 passengers and fly a distance of 2,600nm at speeds of up to M0.82.
