Airports Council International (ACI) World has released guidance to help airports maximise their capacities to meet rising air traffic demands.
According to a report by ACI, global air traffic, which reached 8.8 billion in 2018, is expected to double by 2037 and reach 19.7 billion by 2040.

In its recent report titled ‘Best Practice Recommendations for Airport Operators on Aligning Airspace and Airport Capacity’, ACI outlines the major issues restricting airspace and airport capacity, and the options available.
The report also includes stakeholder role information, the evolution of technology, the implementation of processes and systems and the strategies and vision alignment between different stakeholders.
These are outlined under three headings: capacity alignment and optimisation, new processes and technologies, and air navigation service provider cooperation.
ACI World director general Angela Gittens said: “There is no doubt that the future of the industry is positive with forecasts showing passenger traffic growing worldwide, but airspace capacity is a key constraint for airports.

Last month, ACI World issued an advisory bulletin for airports after the outbreak of coronavirus in China and other parts of the world.
The epidemic originated in Wuhan, China, and has so far killed 1,383 and infected more than 64,000 people.
