During the event ‘Holland Innovation’ the jury announced the Deerns project ‘Seawater as a Sustainable Source for Energy’ as the winner of the ID-NL Innovation Year prize. Earlier the jury announced this project as winner in the ‘Energy and Environment’ category.

The jury awarded the prize to the Deerns project because of the creative way of thinking, the economical importance and the innovative value of the project. Deerns developed the system to withdraw energy from seawater by order of housing society Vestia, represented by property developer Ceres, GTI takes care of the detailed engineering and implementation.

The €7,500 included in the prize will be donated to the Noordzee Foundation. This independent environmental organisation acts as ‘a lawyer from the sea’ and is active as a lobby organisation.
