AJT provides turnkey, prefabricated air traffic control tower visual control rooms, control tower designs, ATM communications, and weather and Navaid system integration and installation.
The designs include location studies and safety risk management and analysis. Solutions comprise radio, voice switch, recorder, primary and secondary weather and automated weather observing systems (AWOS), airfield lighting control, navigational aid monitoring, airfield surveillance and approach radar, providing a complete suite of air traffic control (ATC) equipment.
The modular, factory prefabricated cab is custom-built, constructed and finished prior to shipment.
Pre-engineered, modular air traffic control cabins
AJT cabins are fully outfitted three months from approvals by experienced tradesmen, tested, disassembled, wrapped and shipped to the project site.
The modular nature of the prefabricated cabins allows overseas shipment, quick assembly and deployment. The visual control room can be operational within 14 days of arrival, keeping the cab off of the construction critical path schedule.
Early installation of the prefabricated cab enables contractors in the tower shaft to begin work sooner. The cabs are available in various sizes and shapes to include 6m, four or six-sided, 7.3m six or eight-sided on up to 13m with ten sides. Custom cab sizes are also available.
The ICAO / FAA conforming cabs are built around the controllers and their equipment. The control room is designed to accommodate all systems but primarily focused on continual communications of the air traffic controller with the ground and airborne aircraft. All engineers and designers are experienced communications equipment and cab fabricators.
Interior and exterior air traffic control cab structure
The steel framework is fabricated in a controlled shop environment with certified tradesmen. The cab is then outfitted with the exterior envelope by licenced siding and roofing personnel. The storefront system is installed as well.
The interior is outfitted with a multitude of options that include complete console furnishings, raised access flooring, and ceiling and dimmable lighting fixtures. Break area sink and appliances, isolated equipment electrical circuits and multipoint grounding are other options.
Speciality glazing is designed according to local conditions, equipped with all installation materials, packaged and shipped with the cab for onsite installation by local glaziers. The roof system is an essential part of the tower with equal attention paid to antenna mounting, cable management, lightning and surge suppression, beacon support, power outlets and work lights. Access is provided by a comfortable, folding stair.
Airport traffic control tower design
AJT works closely with the airport to provide design support to local firms providing design assist, or specifying or purchasing a prefabricated cabin. All designs are customised according to the airport’s needs and budget, with an emphasis on a strong structure and high-quality materials.
The company provides a simple, functional design achieved through collaborations with authorities and airport personnel, tower operators, experienced staff and industry associates. This simple design enables reduced costs, yet retains the functionality of the air traffic control tower.
Local code enforcement and communications equipment requirements are addressed at the start of the project in compliance with line-of-sight criteria, life safety, building and fire.
Visual control room communications and systems
All communications, weather equipment, and Navaid systems can be installed in AJT’s prefabricated cab, with final installation occurring once on site.
System planning begins before the design process to allow the new control tower to accommodate the devices, in addition to coordinating with the supplying agency.
