Veghel (Netherlands) – Slovak main contractor ZIPP (a 100% subsidiary of Strabag) has awarded Vanderlande Industries the contract for delivery of a baggage handling system, including hold baggage screening equipment, for the new Bratislava Airport Terminal, in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The new terminal will enable Bratislava Airport to increase annual passenger flows from 2.2 million passengers in 2008 to 4 million passengers per year by 2012.

Vanderlande Industries’ sales team started design preparations in March 2008 in cooperation with the architect and Bratislava Airport. Throughout the sales phase, the sales team continuously concentrated on the complex structure of decision makers and consultants, in close cooperation with local partners. Despite strong competition, Vanderlande’s good proposal resulted in the award of the project.

The BHS will consist (amongst others equipment) of 36 check-ins divided over two check-in islands, five levels of redundant hold baggage screening, two TRIPLANAR make-up carousels and four TRIPLANAR arrival carousels, including feeding lines. The controls equipment will include SCADA.

The delivery of the system will take place in two phases. In the first phase the departure section will be built and completed; this is scheduled to open in May 2010. In the second phase the arrival section will be completed, and that is due to open in March 2012.
