Nasa has extended the space programme operations contract with United Space Alliance to 31 March 2011.
Under the $909m extension, Space Alliance will continue flight operations for the space shuttle and International Space Station programmes.

The contract provides mission design and planning, astronaut and flight controller training, system integration, flight operations, vehicle processing, launch and recovery, vehicle sustaining engineering and flight crew equipment processing.
Work will be performed at United Space Alliance facilities, the Kennedy Space Center and other major subcontractor facilities.
Significant subcontractors include Barrios Technology, Bastion Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and Boeing.
