Boeing Xiamen airlines 737-800 aircraft

Xiamen Airlines, a subsidiary of China Southern Airlines, is to buy 40 Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft to support international expansion and serve increasing passenger demand in the Asia-Pacific region and China.

Valued $3.5bn at list price, the order is currently awaiting approval from the Chinese Government.

With deliveries expected between 2016 and 2019, the new 737-800 aircraft will also support the carrier’s plans to increase its fleet to 200 aeroplanes by the end of 2020.

The Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft is powered by the new CFM56-7BE engine, designed to enhance airflow, while the aircraft’s structural enhancements will further reduce drag and lead to reduced fuel consumption.

Up to 162 passengers can be seated on the single-aisle aircraft in dual class, with a maximum 189 passengers in its higher density configuration.

Optional technologies featured on the 737-800’s flight deck include head-up displays and vertical situation, as well as flight-management software, which enables the aircraft to fly within restricted air paths through use of required navigation performance (RNP).

Certified for ground positioning system (GPS) landings, the aircraft uses satellite technology to improve landings.

Operating an all-Boeing fleet of six 757s and 77 Next-Generation 737 aircraft, Xiamen Airlines is planning to join the Skyteam alliance before the end of this year.
