EVA Air

Taiwan’s independent airline EVA Air has taken delivery of A321 aircraft from Airbus, the first of eight Sharklet-equipped A321s that will be operated under a lease agreement from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS).

The airline will operate the aircraft on regional routes, further improving passenger comfort on its short- and medium-haul flights.

EVA Air chairman Chang Kuo Wei said that the company is pleased to be Taiwan’s first operator bringing the latest version of the cost efficient A321 equipped with Sharklets.

"Thanks to our new Sharklet-equipped A321s, we will continue to offer superior value and service to our customers," Wei said.

Manufactured using light-weight composites, the 2.4m-tall Sharklet wingtip devices are an option on new-build A320 aircraft and standard for all members of the new A320neo family.

"It is of particular importance to us to have the most modern aircraft in our portfolio and the A321 equipped with Sharklets is a perfect fit."

Delivering nearly 4% fuel burn reduction and lower carbon emissions by up to 700t annually, Sharklets provide the flexibility of either adding 100 additional nautical miles range or increased payload capability of about 450kg.

GECAS president and CEO Norman Liu added: "It is of particular importance to us to have the most modern aircraft in our portfolio and the A321 equipped with Sharklets is a perfect fit."

EVA is already operating four A321-200 aircraft in its fleet on flights from Taiwan to North East Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China and South East Asia.

The Airbus A321 is the largest member of Airbus’s A320 Family.

More than 9,900 A320 Family aircraft have been sold globally to date, with nearly 5,800 aircraft delivered to about 390 customers and operators.
