Standex International’s engineered products metal fabrication division, Spincraft, has been awarded a long-term contract from UTC Aerospace Systems – Aerostructures to produce single-piece lipskins for the nacelles primarily on the Airbus A320neo aircraft.

The contract has an estimated valued of $38m-$40m and will run throughout the life of the A320neo programme.

The latest contract also comprises continued requirements for the lipskins on the Bombardier CSeries as well as Mitsubishi Regional Jet.

Standex International Engineering Technologies group president Len Paolillo said: "It is our goal and a priority to continue to support the industry and UTC Aerospace Systems on gaining improvements in all aspects of the manufacturing process for these critical components.

"We are pleased that UTC Aerospace Systems has chosen Spincraft to extend our relationship with them."

A lipskin is the aluminum inlet piece built at the very front of the airflow passage into the engine.

Under the terms of the deal, Spincraft will produce single-piece, aluminum lipskins for the A320neo nacelles built by UTC Aerospace Systems’ Aerostructures unit.

Spincraft’s single-piece lipskins deliver comparatively better aerodynamics, compared to multi-piece lipskins.

These nacelles are integrated with aircraft engines produced by Pratt & Whitney.
