Russian Technologies State has placed a $2.32bn order with JSC Irkut for 35 additional MC-21 aircraft in a bid to create a new short-mid range line of commercial aircraft for the Russian and international market.
Under the contract signed through Aviation Capital Services, a subsidiary of Russian Technologies, Irkut will deliver 18 MC-21-200 and 17 MC-21-300 aircraft during the between 2022 and 2025.
According to Irkut, the MC-21 aircraft will carry out its first flight in 2015 after receiving certification in the same year, while initial deliveries are scheduled to take place in 2017.
The aircraft’s high aerodynamic efficiency airframe, use of composite materials, new engines and other technologies are designed to offer enhanced performance and operational features.
Powered by United Engine PD-14 engines, the aircraft’s improved fuselage diameter, new cabin design solutions, modern climate control system and lighting are expected to offer enhanced comfort level for passengers.
Irkut is the sole company responsible for the MC-21 programme, while the aircraft design is provided by the Russian civil aviation’s Federal Target Program – Development.

By GlobalDataThe MC-21 line of aircraft is being developed together with Russian and foreign companies and the Russian Technologies-led team are manufacturing several parts for the aircraft, particularly the PD-14 engine.
According to the company, the flexible MC-21 concept will enable conventional, low-cost, hybrid and charter operators to use the aircraft successfully.
Aviation Capital Services had signed a firm order with Irkut for 50 MC-21 aircraft, with an option for 35 aircraft, in August 2011 at Moscow’s International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2011 Airshow.
