Aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney (P&W) has started construction on its first manufacturing plant in Singapore, which will produce fan blades and high-pressure turbine disks for its PurePower Geared Turbofan engines.
The new 180,000ft² facility will be located adjacent to the company’s flagship facility at the Seletar Aerospace Park – Pratt & Whitney Singapore Component Repair.

Pratt & Whitney stated it has invested some $110m in the development of these two facilities.
The construction of the facility is expected to be complete by 2014, with production of commercial engine fan blades slated to begin in 2015 and high-pressure turbine disks by 2016.
The move will increase Pratt & Whitney’s work force in Singapore to more than 2,500 over the next five years.
Pratt & Whitney president David Hess said that the new plant would strengthen the company’s footprint in Singapore.

The new manufacturing facility will allow Pratt & Whitney to meet global customer demand for commercial aircraft engines.
Meanwhile, Pratt & Whitney is in the final stages of completing 160,000ft² Singapore Component Repair centre in the Seletar Aerospace Park, which is scheduled to begin initial production before the end of this year.
In February 2012, the aeroplane engine manufacturer announced the start of the Singapore Component Repair centre that will provide PW4000-engine part repair services and also include Global Services Engineering-Asia department.
Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies, is involved in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines.
