Pratt & Whitney PurePower engine

UK-based aircraft parts maker, Meggitt has received three contracts from aerospace companies to supply components for Pratt & Whitney (P&W) PurePower engines, sensors for the LEAP-1A and LEAP-1C engines and fire protection systems.

The first contract is from Hamilton Sundstrand to provide components for seven thermal management packages on Pratt & Whitney PurePower geared turbofan (GTF) engines.

As per the contract, which is estimated to be worth about $1bn, the company will provide the packages made up of valves, coolant pumps, oil coolers and heat exchangers and will support throughout the lifetime of the engine and aircraft programmes.

The GTF engines will power aircraft including the new Bombardier C-Series regional jet, Mitsubishi Regional Jet and Airbus A320neo aircraft.

Meggitt CEO, Terry Twigger, said: "These contract wins are on highly innovative engines for equally innovative aircraft, attracting multiple orders. We look forward to working with Hamilton Sundstrand and Pratt & Whitney on these programmes which could last up to 40 years."

The company has also been selected by Snecma for the supply of sensor products for the LEAP-1A and LEAP-1C engines, which are the new baseline turbofan engines, developed by CFM International to power the Airbus A320neo and Comac C919 respectively.

Meggitt expects that the contract will generate total sales including original equipment, spares and repairs in excess of $200m over the life of the engines.

The third contract is with Bombardier to provide an integrated fire protection system for its Global 7000/8000 business jets.

As per the contract, the company will provide complete ATA Chapter 26 fire protection system, which comprises fire and smoke detection, overheat protection, fire suppression and system control.

The new Global 7000 aircraft features four-zone cabin and offers a range of 7,300 nm with ten passengers at Mach 0.85, while the 8000 aircraft will offer a range of 7,900 nm at Mach 0.85 with eight passengers.
