Ethiopian Airlines has awarded a contract to Rockwell Collins to deliver the complete range of avionics equipment for its fleet of Boeing 777s, which currently includes ten aircraft.
The contract includes Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan Threat Detection System, GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II), as well as SATCOM.
Rockwell Collins Air Transport Systems vice-president and general manager Steve Timm said: "We’re pleased to have the opportunity with this fast-growing African airline to help their pilots be more aware of their surroundings and operate more efficiently using our advanced avionics."
The MultiScan Threat Detection System is an automated airborne weather radar system, which combines the latest weather science with advanced engineering concepts in order to identify and examine thunderstorm cells, and display weather threats.
Rockwell Collins’ GLU-925 MMR provides airlines with latest required navigation performance (RNP)/area navigation (RNAV) and automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) capabilities.
The TTR-921 and -2100 TCAS II systems help pilots by delivering airborne situational awareness of surrounding traffic, and the inclusion of ADS-B In applications allows airlines to experience enhanced situational awareness to visually identify nearby traffic, while improving safety.

By GlobalDataFor SATCOM, Ethiopian Airlines tapped Rockwell Collins’ SAT-2200 and -2100 systems that allow airline crews to maintain communications at all phases of flight without pilot intervention.
Ethiopian Airlines COO Mesfin Tasew said: "It helps us to reduce cost, as we have maintenance and spares commonality on all our brand new B777 fleet."
