Bombardier has announced the first wing shipment for its Learjet 85 business jet has reached the Wichita final assembly line in the US and will be installed on the fuselage of Flight Test Vehicle one (FTV1).

In addition, the fuselage for FTV2 has also successfully completed its integrity inspection.

The company expects to install nose, bulkheads, floor, windshield and door surrounds in the next few days, with the main and aft fuselages the being shipped to the final assembly line.

Learjet vice president and general manager Ralph Acs said that the Learjet development programme was gaining momentum as the company steps up its efforts towards the first flight and aircraft delivery.

Wings required for the complete aircraft static test are expected to reach the facility from Queretaro, Mexico, by the end of this month.

The company noted that the programme has been progressing well, as all system supplier safety of flight test rigs have been commissioned.

Bombardier launched the Learjet 85 development programme in October 2007 and started production of the business jet in August 2010 at its Wichita facility.

Powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW307B turbofan engine, the Learjet 85 will feature Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite, electronic flight instrument system, inertial reference system, integrated flight information system with electronic charts, two electronic flight bag and dual flight management system.

Learjet 85 will be able to fly up to 5,556km, as speeds of up to Mach 0.82.
