Defence contractor BAE Systems has entered into a comprehensive agreement with Japan Airlines (JAL) to deliver maintenance support for the airlines’ fleet of commercial aircraft.
Under the terms of the agreement, BAE Systems will offer repairs, spares, and modifications to aircraft electronics of the carrier’s Boeing 737-800, 767, and 777 aircraft.
BAE Systems Commercial Aircraft Solutions vice-president and general manager Ehtisham Siddiqui said that the company continued emphasis on customer service is validated by this win.
"We will capitalise on our more than 25 years of experience in aircraft maintenance to provide unsurpassed support and value to JAL," Siddiqui said.
The agreement will allow JAL to maintain its fleet of 737-800, 767, and 777 jets at a more predictable cost over a period of three years.
BAE Systems will provide maintenance support under the contract at the company’s Singapore Service Center, as well as from Commercial Aircraft Solutions facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

By GlobalDataSeparately, JAL has announced its plans to expand its JAL New Sky Project and install in-flight Internet service on select domestic flights.
As part of the project, the carrier will revamp cabin interiors on aircraft operating on certain domestic routes, which will include installation of leather seating and LED lighting throughout the cabin based on the theme ‘Superior Cabin’.
JAL New Sky Project was launched in January 2013 with the introduction of the JAL Sky Suite 777 on international routes.
