Argentina’s flag carrier Aerolineas Argentinas has signed a $1.8bn agreement with Boeing for 20 Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft.

The latest order is in line with the airline’s efforts to modernise its fleet and improve passenger satisfaction.

The order, which, extends the longstanding partnership between Aerolineas and Boeing, will help the Argentine carrier build on its current fleet of 26 Next-Generation 737s.

Aerolineas Argentinas president Mariano Recalde said: "This agreement is a key part of a greater plan to renew our fleet and prepare our operations to accommodate growing demand.

"The Boeing Next-Generation 737-800, which has more seats than our current single-aisle fleet, will give us more flexibility to operate both domestic and regional routes."

According to Boeing, Argentina’s investment in the Next-Generation 737 helps fuel the industrial development in the country, providing capacity to fuel its economic objectives, while unlocking demand for air transport.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean sales vice-president Van Rex Gallard said that the company has worked side by side with Aerolineas to help provide world-class aviation to the people of Argentina.
