China successfully launched the SinoSat-6 satellite for radio and television broadcasts from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in Sichuan Province on 5 September.

The satellite was launched atop a Long March 3B rocket that injected the SinoSat-6 into a geostationary transfer orbit, 26 minutes after the launch.

The satellite has a design life of 15 years and will eventually work at longitude 126.4°E about 35,700km above the equator, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC).

SinoSat-6 will mainly relay TV and radio live broadcast signals, specifically to remote and mountainous regions.

SinoSat-6 is expected to replace SinoSat-3, launched in June 2007.
