Bombardier has built the first composite manufacturing validation unit (MVU) for the pressure fuselage section of the Learjet 85 aircraft.
The MVU will be used to validate design concepts, manufacturing processes and quality as the Learjet 85 programme advances towards production scheduled for later this year.
45,000lb of production tooling will be transferred to the new Learjet 85 aircraft facility in Querétaro, Mexico, where a second MVU will be built.
Bombardier Business Aircraft Learjet 85 vice-president Ralph Acs said that the next step would be to apply what they learnt from the first unit to the second unit, to confirm their technology readiness.
The Learjet 85 aircraft manufacturing facility in Quéretaro is on track and the first tooling is scheduled for installation this month, followed by construction of the first production part.
Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW307B engines, the jet aims to have a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.82 and a transcontinental range of up to 3,000nm.
