Space Systems / Loral (SS/L) is to build a new satellite, Amazonas 3, for the HISPASAT Group.
HISPASAT will use Amazonas 3 to broadcast and distribute TV and radio programming in the Americas and Europe.

The operator will also use the satellite for universal social services, and corporate fixed and mobile telephone networks in the regions.
Capable of operating up to 33 Ku-band transponders and 19 C-band transponders over Europe, and North and South America, the satellite will be based on SS/L’s 1300 satellite bus weighing about 5t.
Amazonas 3 is designed to replace and expand on Amazonas 1 at 61°W, and is scheduled for launch in 2012.
