Harris Corporation will modernise the ground segment for Nasa’s tracking and data relay satellite system (TDRSS), under a $140m contract from General Dynamics.
The TDRSS network is used by low earth orbit satellites and spacecraft to continuously relay data to ground stations in New Mexico and Guam.

The upgrade will improve situational awareness for the network operators, enhance computing and signal processing equipment, increase maintainability and efficiency, and reduce operations and sustainment costs.
Harris is part of the General Dynamics-led team that won the Nasa space network ground segment sustainment (SGSS) contract.
Harris will lead the effort to replace all equipment and software in the space-to-ground link of Nasa’s TDRSS.
Harris will also provide high-speed modems and switches, signal processing and RF systems for the space-to-ground link, large portions of the network’s gateway element, and operational test services, maintenance, and training and support for overall system engineering.
