Boeing plans to manufacture some of the 787 Dreamliner interior parts in South Carolina to supply the aircraft final assembly and delivery site being developed in the US state.
The new facility, Boeing Fabrication Interiors South Carolina, which will fabricate and assemble interior parts for the 787, is planned to be situated in the North Charleston final assembly and delivery site.
Parts produced at the facility include stow bins, closets, partitions, class dividers, floor-mounted stow bins, overhead flight-crew rests, overhead flight attendant crew rests, video-control stations and attendant modules.
The decision is part of Boeing’s 2009 plan to provide an independent sourcing stream for 787 final assembly and delivery in the state to improve its efficiency.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ supply chain management and operations vice president and general manager Ray Conner said that the decision builds on its overall strategy to meet 787 customer commitments and to optimise production capability.
