BAE Systems is finding Indonesia an attractive domestic market for its BAE 146/Avro RJ family of regional jetliners.

The firm has delivered four of the aircraft to Indonesia in the past year, with the latest 98-seater delivered in November 2009 to PT Aviastar Mandirito, operated on behalf of Transnusa Air Services.

Aviastar bought another BAE 146-200 in June 2009, while PT Nusantara Air Charter bought a Series 200 passenger airliner and a Series 200QT (quiet trader) freighter from BAE Systems.

BAE Systems Regional Aircraft director of sales and leasing (Asia) Raj Singh said that Indonesia was a very receptive market for BAE at the moment and the firm was engaged in further discussions with a number of operators.

“The geography of the country means that regional air transport can often be the only reliable means of getting passengers and goods from one area to another,” he said.

“The BAE 146/Avro RJ family has the airfield performance, economics and price tag to make it a strong contender for these roles.”
