Sikorsky has unveiled the first S-76(R) helicopter equipped with an emergency medical services interiors.

The new interior incorporates the articulating patient loading system (APLS) into the S-76 helicopter.

Opening up the cabin floor for more storage, the interior allows multiple positioning for patient care, provides a lowered platform to perform CPR and has multiple options to mount customer-specific gear.

Sikorsky Global Helicopters chief engineer Jim Munda said that the new set-up addressed a number of loading issues and in-flight usage problems.

“The new Air Methods litter base offers a major improvement to our medical interiors,” he said.

Sikorsky partnered with Air Methods Corp to begin work on the project in May 2009.
