The Indian Space Research Organisation has conducted a static test on the liquid core stage (L110) of the geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV mkIII).

The three-stage GSLV will place 4t class of communication satellites in geo-synchronous transfer orbit.

GSLV uses two high-pressure Vikas engines in a clustered configuration the L110 is an earth-storable liquid propellant stage holding 110t of fuel.

The static test set for 200 seconds was stopped at 150 seconds as a deviation was identified in one of 500 parameters on which the rocket was being monitored.

The liquid stage with a single engine in the PSLV and GSLV burns for 150 seconds, while the GSLV mkIII requires burning for 200 seconds in a twin-engine configuration.

The rocket is scheduled for launch in 2011.
