China has successfully launched Yaogan IX, a remote sensing satellite, atop a Long March 4C rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in north-western Gansu Province.

The satellite will enable scientific experiment, surveys on land resources, forecast grain output and aid in the nation’s natural disaster-reduction and prevention endeavour.

China has launched nine remote sensing satellites since April 2006.

The previous satellite, Yaogan VIII, was put in orbit in December 2009.
