Dane County in the US state of Wisconsin has installed a new satellite system on its highways to fight snow drifts that might occur in a major winter storm expected to hit south central region of the state.
The global information systems technology will allow highway supervisors to receive real-time locations of snow plow trucks, to send the vehicles for snow clearance to reopen the road as well as for emergencies.

The system has been installed on all 150 highway department vehicles including the county’s 58 plows.
The technology will display the closest five trucks to any given location in the county’s coverage area.
Between the city of Madison and Dane County, over 300 snow removal and salting and sanding vehicles will be out on area roads, officials have said.
