The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has launched the H-IIB launch vehicle no 2 (H-IIB F2) with the Kounotori 2, a cargo transfer vehicle from the Tanegashima Space Centre in southern Japan.
JAXA said the spacecraft was launched on schedule and the separation of Kounotori 2 from the launch vehicle was confirmed about 15 minutes after take-off.

Kounotori 2 will fly to the International Space Station 28 January and is slated for berthing with the ISS.
Kounotori 2 will be transporting 5t of supplies such as food, water and experimental tools for astronauts at the ISS.
The mission is Japan’s second cargo transfer mission to the ISS.
