Qantas has said it will resume flights of some A380 aircraft, three weeks after an engine explosion forced one of the airline’s A380 planes to make an emergency landing.

The airline decided to restore A380 services following an intensive Trent 900 engine inspection programme carried out jointly with Rolls-Royce and Airbus.

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said the airline was working with Airbus and Rolls-Royce to get all six super jumbos back in the air.

Initially, Qantas will operate a single A380 on routes between Australia and the UK.

Qantas will voluntarily suspend A380 services on routes that regularly require use of maximum certified engine thrust.
