American-based aerospace manufacturer Textron Aviation announced it is bringing the collier-winning Autoland system to develop the Beechcraft Denali single-engine turboprop.

The aircraft features a GE catalyst engine with dual channel FADEC and propeller control which provides easy jet-like power control in the flight deck as well as unrivalled operating efficiencies and engine protection.

Additionally, the Beechcraft Denali is engineered to achieve cruise speeds of 285 knots and an overall range of 1,600 nautical miles.

Garmin’s Autoland system is part of the Autonomi family of safety-enhancing technologies, which includes features such as electronic stability and protection systems.

Autoland is the world’s first approved system of its kind, providing an additional layer of safety and introducing ‘peace of mind’ technology for pilots and passengers.

Lannie O’Bannion, senior VP of sales and flight operations said: “The Autoland system is an excellent addition to the Beechcraft Denali and the G3000 avionics suite and we’ve included it in the program as a direct response to continued conversations with our customers.”

“The feature makes the Denali even more desirable to a wider audience as it adds yet another element of assurance and peace of mind for pilots and passengers.”

The Denali flight test certification program features three flight test articles. The combined flight time of the three flight test aircraft exceeded 1,300 hours.

The new feature is being integrated into the aircraft’s development and flight-test programmes and will be offered as a standard feature upon entrance into service.

According to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Textron has been working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Garmin since 2017 to support the certification and implementation of the Garmin Emergency Autoland System.

In addition to this, the FAA has approved the benefits of the Autoland system and granted it certification for use on select G3000 flight deck-equipped aircraft.

The Garmin Autoland system also fits in with the FAA’s Automation Evolution Strategy which aims to modernize the national airspace system by increasing automation and integration of new technologies to enhance safety and efficiency.

American-based Garmin Autoland has been awarded the prestigious 2020 Robert J. Collier Trophy by the National Aeronautic Association.

The NAA stated that the system was “the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year.”
