Canadian low-cost carrier Swoop is set to start operations at Toronto Pearson Airport as part of its recovery plans.

The airline plans to commence services at the airport from 25 October with flights on certain domestic and international routes. The schedule will be released next month.

Swoop president Charles Duncan said: “Travel is beginning to rebound, and we want to help encourage Canadians to reconnect with family and friends or plan that long-awaited vacation.

“With the robust health and safety measures we have put in place on each of our flights, travellers in Toronto will now have more affordable air travel options than ever before.”

Established in 2018, Swoop airline is owned by the WestJet Group of companies. It offers point-to-point scheduled services to destinations in Canada, the US, Mexico and the Caribbean.

The Swoop fleet comprises nine Boeing 737-800 aircraft equipped with in-seat power and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Greater Toronto Airports Authority president and CEO Deborah Flint said: “We welcome Swoop’s decision to begin operations at Toronto Pearson.

“The industry has changed significantly, and we are focused on world-class health and safety measures that will ultimately reinvigorate travel at Pearson and throughout the region.”

Notably, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, which operates the airport, announced last month that it will reduce its workforce by 27% in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis.

Toronto Pearson Airport is one of the largest and busiest airports in Canada. According to its website, the airport offers daily non-stop flights to more than 67% of the world’s economies.
