Latin America’s LATAM Airlines Group has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, becoming the first carrier in the region to operate the aircraft.
The carrier is taking the 787-9 aircraft from Amsterdam-based lessor AerCap.
LATAM, which already operates 787-8, will launch 787-9 services on South American routes in April.
The latest aircraft brings LATAM Airlines’ total number of 787s in its fleet to 11.
The airline intends to operate a fleet of 32 787 Dreamliners, including ten 787-9s, in the next few years.
The 787-9 complements the 787 family and extends in capacity and range. The aircraft has 20ft longer fuselage and can accommodate 40 more passengers than 787-8.
