Horizon Air Q400

Horizon Air Industries, a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, has signed a deal to purchase two Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft.

The two aircraft are part of options acquired by Horizon Air for seven Q400 NextGen aircraft in June 2013 when it signed a firm contract for three aircraft.

The latest deal is valued at around $70.1m, based on list prices.

Horizon Air president and chief operations officer David Campbell said: "As we grow our operations, we continue to rely on the Q400 aircraft’s versatility, speed and comfort to provide a satisfying experience for our customers."

With this order, Horizon Air’s fleet of Q400 aircraft will increase to 54.

The Q400 aircraft features head-up guidance systems, wide area augmentation systems with approach guidance for ILS-like landing minima at remote runways and RNP AR 0.1 to fly curved approaches in difficult terrain.

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft North America sales regional vice-president Steve Young said: "Horizon Air is one of the most successful North American regional carriers and a marquee customer that continues to showcase the operational flexibility and performance capability of the Q400 aircraft."

Horizon Air, which was acquired by Alaska Air Group, operates Q400 aircraft on behalf of Alaska Airlines and serves 43 cities in the western US, Canada and Mexico.

Horizon Air’s purchase of the latest two aircraft comes after Dublin-based aircraft lessor Elix Aviation Capital agreed to buy three Q400 NextGen aircraft earlier this week.
