Honda Aero has started production of HF120 turbofan engine at its manufacturing facility in Burlington, North Carolina, US.

Developed in partnership with the US-based General Electric, the HF120 brings together the engine production, and jet aviation expertise of the two companies.

Honda Aero president Masahiko Izumi said: "We are now at the starting point, and we are committed to supplying jet engines of the highest quality and to delivering world-class support to our customers."

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory said: "With this new engine manufacturing facility, Honda will now be building both jets and jet engines in North Carolina."

GE Aviation carried out the early production of engines at its plant in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Production of HF120 engines is expected to be moved to the new plant by this year-end.

The facility features a test cell, repair and overhaul, as well as parts warehousing. It is said to be the maintenance repair and overhaul facility for the HF120 engines.

The company said it will work together with engineering and supply teams, to ensure the assemble parts will comply with FAA requirements.

Honda Aero vice-president Tony Brandewie said: "Our 120% quality policy will be applied to everything we do here, as we remain dedicated to building customer confidence in our products and services."

Honda Aero is engaged in parts procurement, assembly and testing of jet engines at its Burlington plant, located adjacent to the Burlington-Alamance County regional airport. It also provides engine maintenance and overhaul services.
