Heathrow’s new airport cycle officer, Ali Jafarey, is leading a one-year partnership between the airport and the UK’s cycling and walking charity Sustrans.
The partnership aims to make cycle routes to the airport safer and more accessible.

It also intends to encourage 16,500 local staff members who reside within 5km of the airport to commute on bikes.
Heathrow sustainable travel manager Theo Panayi said: "We are looking forward to the partnership with Sustrans, which will make the airport’s cycle routes safer and more accessible, helping many of our 16,500 colleagues who live locally feel more confident about making the journey to the airport on their bikes."
During the first year of the deal, the two partners will publish a cycle strategy in line with broader West London Cycling plans.
Drafted with local authorities, the strategy will connect Heathrow’s existing cycling network with routes running to West Drayton, Hayes, Chiswick, Feltham, Slough and Staines.

By GlobalDataSustrans Workplace Behaviour Change programme manager James Scott said: "Heathrow is the largest centre of employment in West London and is uniquely placed to deliver changes to the cycling experience our region.
"Our one-year cycle partnership project will help make cycling to work the easy choice for staff, enabling them to travel more sustainably and ease congestion and emissions in local road networks."
The partnership is part of Heathrow’s larger campaign to reduce single occupancy car journeys, congestion and carbon emissions.
