Shanghai Avionics (SAVIC) has selected Elbit Systems of America to provide the Kollsman Enhanced Vision System-Superior Performance (EVS-SP) for the COMAC C919 aircraft.

Elbit worked with East Wonder to secure the contract with SAVIC.

The EVS-SP is said to provide operators with a high-resolution vision system in a single, weight-saving unit.

SAVIC president Wang Jinyan said: "The award of the C919 EVS-SP contract is the first step in collaboration between Elbit Systems of America and SAVIC.

"Given the emerging market of civil aviation in China, we believe this agreement will be the foundation of future collaborations between our two companies in the general aviation market to bring improved situational awareness while taking off and approaching."

"Our enhanced vision systems have offered the aviation industry increased flexibility and safety."

The Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) recently implemented the current US FAA rules, which allows pilots to go past the traditional decision height (DA / DH) down to 100ft if they do not see the landing area with natural vision.

The agency has also adopted avionics equipment requirements to install head-up displays (HUD).

According to Elbit the Kollsman EVS-SP-equipped C919 will benefit from improved safety and situational awareness, allowing more aircraft into the airspace.

Elbit Systems of America president and CEO Raanan Horowitz said: "Since the development and certification of the first commercial EVS, our enhanced vision systems have offered the aviation industry increased flexibility and safety."

The Kollsman EVS is currently used on 13 aircraft models, including business jets and Part 121 aircraft.

So far Elbit has delivered over 1,500 Kollsman EVS systems to customers worldwide.
