Canada’s Bombardier Commercial Aircraft has signed a firm purchase agreement with an undisclosed customer for ten CRJ900 aircraft.

The deal is valued at approximately $472m, based on the list price of the CRJ900 jets.

Mainly designed for medium-haul regional routes, Bombardier’s CRJ Series aircraft provides up to 10% cash operating cost advantage and burns up to 13% less fuel than their rivals.

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft president Fred Cromer said: "The modern and fuel-efficient CRJ900 aircraft continues to maintain its solid footing and set industry benchmarks with its lower operating costs, outstanding operational flexibility and enhanced cabin amenities.

"These are key drivers for the growth, profitability and success of airlines around the world and we are delighted that the CRJ900 aircraft is creating excellent value for a wide variety of operators with diverse business requirements."

The CRJ Series aircraft family currently includes more than 100 owners and operators in around 40 countries.

Bombardier has so far won a total of 1,902 firm orders for CRJ Series aircraft, including 428 CRJ900 aircraft.

Meanwhile, Bombardier has entered into a definitive agreement for the sale of its Amphibious Aircraft programme to British Columbia-based Viking Air.

The deal covers the type certificates for all variants of the aircraft, including CL-215, CL-215T and the Bombardier 415 aircraft, in addition to after-market services.

Subject to the approval of all required governmental and regulatory authorities, as well as fulfilment of other customary closing conditions, the deal is expected to close over the next few months.
