Airbus has successfully completed the first flight of its fuel efficient new A320neo with plans to put the aircraft into service in late-2015.
The two-and-half-hour flight marks the beginning of flight test campaign involving eight aircraft with new engine options (NEO), Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM and CFM International LEAP-1A turbofans.

The aircraft lifted-off from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in France with Airbus experimental test pilots and test-flight engineer on-board.
During the flight, crew evaluated the aircraft flight envelope and systems and experts on the ground monitored progress through a telemetry link.
Airbus president and CEO Fabrice Brégier said: "The A320neo, which has taken to the air today, builds on the outstanding success of the A320 family.
"The aircraft through its incremental innovations combines the most efficient engine and aerodynamic technologies, as well as new cabin features to bring to market a product which will consume 20% less fuel per passenger."

By GlobalDataAs part of the programme, the Neo development fleet will undergo around 3,000 hours of flight testing.
The A320neo powered by Pratt & Whitney engines will be the Neo family’s first variant to attain type certification and enter into service with Qatar Airways, Airbus said.
Comprising the A319neo, A320neo and A321neo, the A320neo family is said to be the best-selling single-aisle aircraft range and has to date secured 3,200 orders from 60 customers worldwide.
Earlier this year, Airbus announced plans to increase production of A320 jets to 46 per month by the middle of 2016 from the current 42.
