Siemens Offers Turnkey Airport Terminals – Cost-Efficient and Quickly Implemented

Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics (SPPAL) offers terminals for airports and airlines having to deal with urgent capacity requirements or looking for a highly cost-efficient solution: CapacityPlus addresses short-term and intermediate as well as permanent capacity demand and has proven its capabilities in different regions worldwide.

Sports or cultural events but also expansions or modifications may cause short-term capacity demands at airports. Low-cost carriers that open and close new locations frequently often have only a temporary capacity demand. In these situations, the turnkey airport terminal CapacityPlus is the perfect solution.

Maximum efficiency and flexibility is achieved for example through the very short implementation time of a few months. The layout addresses the individual geographical and operational requirements, such as throughput or the type of flight (regular or chartered).

Moreover, the solution is seamlessly integrated into the operational environment of the existing airport and takes local conditions such as noise and security regulations as well as the regional climate into account.

Depending on customer needs, CapacityPlus terminals are housed in solid constructions or special tents. Inside the terminal, standard sub-systems are used for baggage handling, passenger information, security screening and building technology.

CapacityPlus provides significant cost advantages, for example because of its fast implementation and smart equipment reutilisation schemes. Siemens provides every step of the project, from planning over implementation, right through to operation and maintenance, which speeds up processes and has a positive effect on costs as well. Depending on customer needs and intended duration of use, the terminals can be leased or purchased.

Siemens has successfully implemented CapacityPlus at many airports worldwide. The latest examples are located in Angola, where Siemens simultaneously set up four turnkey terminals in the regional towns of Dundo, Luena, Saurimo, and Soyo. The modern airport terminals are permanent facilities dedicated to easing travel to and from Angola’s capital city Luanda. The CapacityPlus terminal opened in Lisbon (Portugal) in 2007 has also become a permanent establishment, which is currently being operated by a low-cost carrier.

For temporary usage CapacityPlus terminals were set up for the Football World Cup in the South African cities of Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein in 2010, for the Asian Games in Doha (Qatar) in 2006, as well as for the European Football Championships in Lisbon (Portugal) in 2004.
