(FALCON), in collaboration with the Vancouver Airport Authority, is delighted to announce multiple openings for Wildlife Management Technicians to join our dynamic team at Vancouver International Airport (YVR). This presents a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to contribute to a world-class airport wildlife management program, ensuring both aviation safety and wildlife conservation.

Wildlife Management Technicians play a crucial role in fostering aviation safety and preserving local ecosystems by implementing effective wildlife management strategies. Successful candidates will be part of a dedicated team committed to maintaining the highest standards in wildlife control, enhancing safety for both air travellers and the surrounding environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Learn and develop skills relative to wildlife management, abatement, and dispersal methods, including the discharge of pyrotechnics, the use of firearms, the deployment of falconry birds and canine, the use of drones, and trapping activities
  • Identify wildlife (mainly birds), collect data on species, and abatement interventions
  • Maintain company vehicles and other equipment, including firearms and pyrotechnical launchers, in safe and clean working order
  • Patrol the airfield, including active runways, and airport sites by vehicle, by foot, and by boat while maintaining situational awareness of wildlife hazards and aircraft activity
  • Perform fieldwork and/or collect data for scientific studies
  • Contributing to the ongoing success of YVR’s world-class wildlife management program.

  • Autonomous, trustworthy, and able to make decisions; you show good judgement in high-stress situations
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work long hours (12-hour shifts)
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and fluently in English (spoken and written)
  • Familiarity with computers and tablets (Apple environment)
  • Experience with drones/RPAS
  • Good time management and communication skills
  • Good observation skills and have experience or interest in wildlife identification (birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles)
  • Have prior hunting and trapping experience (asset)
  • Possess the following licences and certifications:
    1. A valid BC general Class 5 driver’s license, or North American equivalent, with a good driving record
    2. A Firearms Possession and Acquisition certificate PAL (mandatory, or with-in the first month of employment
    3. Have completed the CORE (and/or Trapper) Training course and are in possession of a BC Hunter licence (mandatory).
    4. Successful candidates will be required to acquire this if not already licensed within the first six months of employment
    5. Ability to pass an Enhanced Background Check by Transport Canada for Restricted Airport Identification Card (mandatory)
    6. Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident and legally eligible for work in Canada.
