Maersk, UPS Foundation/Coyote Logistics, Good360, LIFT Non-Profit Logistics and the Kale Foundation are transporting 440 pallets of US-donated humanitarian aid to Turkey, following the two earthquakes in February.

A humanitarian aid and logistics chain has been created to convey the privately donated US relief goods, which will be transported by both land and air to the afflicted area.

Maersk’s Aid & Relief North America head Fred Patterson said: “Owning and operating our own air fleet now gives us an element of control and capacity that allows us to better flex to the inherent time-pressed nature of disaster relief.”

The relief goods will include clothing, bedding, diapers, wipes, food, first aid kits, hygiene care, feminine care items, tents, and solar-powered lights.

Good360 is distributing donated items from Amazon, Hello Bello, Nice-Pak, KIND, CVS Health, AmerisourceBergen, Cora, LuminAID, Coyuchi, Sew Purposeful and YouGiveGoods (Fidelity), as well as non-profit partners Hands in Service and United Way of Lee County.

Maersk Air Cargo’s facility at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina, US, received the goods from 12 UPS trailer trucks from LIFT Non-Profit Logistics in Jacksonville, Florida.

The cargo was readied for flights to Germany on Maersk Air Cargo’s daily Boeing 747 cargo service to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. Five consecutive daily flights were used to transport the entire shipment.

In Germany, the goods are to be placed into 20 trailer trucks for inland transportation to Turkey, which will take eight to ten days.

Items will be distributed to survivors by Good360’s partner, the Kale Foundation.

Coyote Logistics helped to arrange the domestic freight transportation services for donated goods.

LIFT consolidated Good360’s humanitarian aid shipments in their disaster logistics hub in Florida and prepared the cargo for export to The Kale Foundation through the UPS Foundation/Coyote and Maersk.
