Understand the impact of the Ukraine conflict from a cross-sector perspective with the Global Data Executive Briefing: Ukraine Conflict

Flag carrier SriLankan Airlines has paused all flights operating between Sri Lanka and Moscow, Russia, due to operational constraints beyond its control.

Citing a force majeure situation, the carrier ceased its operations to Moscow from 28 March until further notice.

“The restrictions are in the form of international financial and aircraft insurance limits which have been imposed on Russia due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, and directly impact SriLankan Airlines’ flight operations to Russia,” the airline company said.

The decision comes amid the ongoing military attack on Ukraine by Russia.

SriLankan Airlines said that it will continue to monitor the crisis and resume service once conditions are better.

Prior to the suspension of service, the carrier ran two flights between Colombo and Moscow on a weekly basis.

With this move, SriLankan Airlines has joined other companies that have suspended their operations in Russia due to the Ukraine conflict.

Earlier this month, Korean Air announced that it would temporarily suspend all its routes to Russia until April, as a safety measure amid the Ukraine crisis.

The South Korean flag carrier said that it will halt operations of its passenger jets to Moscow and Vladivostok in Russia.

Meanwhile, as a retaliatory measure against Western sanctions, Russian flag carrier Aeroflot temporarily paused all its international flight services from 8 March, excluding flights to Belarus.
