The jet is being built by a unit of the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Comac, which had been set up in 2008 to develop China’s first home-grown jumbo jet.

The C919’s maiden flight is scheduled for late 2014 and delivery is expected by 2016.

Comac plans to produce 50 C919s a year initially, potentially increasing to 100 depending on its success.
