The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has conducted a static test of the world’s third-largest solid rocket booster S200 for the geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle mkIII (GSLV-mkIII).

The S200 will form the strap-on stage for the GSLV-mkIII, currently under development for launching 4t class of communication satellites.

The 22m-long booster contains 200t of solid propellant in three segments.

During the test, the S200 booster was fired for 130 seconds and generated a peak thrust of about 500t.

About 600 health parameters were monitored during the test and the initial data indicates normal performance.
