Finnair will acquire two 270-seat Airbus A340 wide-bodied aircraft to meet growing demand on Asian flights.

The airline will buy the A340s on four-year lease agreements from leasing company ILFC, with the aircraft joining the Finnair fleet in late 2010 and early 2011.

Finnair president and CEO Mika Vehviläinen said that the decision would enable the company to satisfy growth needs until it can take delivery of the new-generation Airbus A350 aircraft.

“The A340 aircraft will bring additional capacity to meet the needs of Asia’s rapidly strengthening cargo demand,” he said.
