Latin America’s LATAM Airlines Group has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, becoming the first carrier in the region to operate the aircraft.

The carrier is taking the 787-9 aircraft from Amsterdam-based lessor AerCap.

The latest aircraft brings LATAM Airlines’ total number of 787s in its fleet to 11.

The airline intends to operate a fleet of 32 787 Dreamliners, including ten 787-9s, in the next few years.

The 787-9 complements the 787 family and extends in capacity and range. The aircraft has 20ft longer fuselage and can accommodate 40 more passengers than 787-8.

Boeing claimed the 787-9 offers 20% in fuel efficiency and fewer emissions, compared to the aeroplanes it replaces. The 787-9 is said to feature large windows, stow bins, modern LED lighting, higher humidity, and a lower cabin altitude.

Boeing logged more than 1,070 orders for 787s from 58 customers worldwide, with more than 200 delivered. Delivery to LATAM comes after Singapore-based Scoot recently received its first 787 Dreamliner.

Japan’s All Nippon Airways announced plans to purchase three 787-10 Dreamliners and five Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft.
