Qatar AirwaysDoha-based carrier Qatar Airways will unveil its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner at the upcoming 2012 Farnborough International Air Show, which runs from 9-15 July in the UK.

The unveiling, which makes Qatar Airways the launch customer of the aircraft in the Middle East, will also support the carrier’s official receiving and commercial introduction of the first of 60 aircraft on order in 2012.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said: "The airline’s prominent presence with the unveiling of the first Qatar Airways 787 Dreamliner at the largest global aviation event of its kind signals the start of an exciting new chapter for travel in the Middle East and worldwide."

The Dreamliner’s unveiling at Farnborough follows the previous international debut of its business and economy class seats at ITB Berlin and at the Arabian Travel Market.

Following its entry into service, the 787 Dreamliner will be initially operated on routes to intra-Gulf regions prior to its first long-haul commercial flight between Doha and London Heathrow airport.

According to Boeing, the seats of Qatar Airways’ Boeing 787’s business class and economy class are configured as 1-2-1 and 3-3-3 cabin layout respectively, while the business class seats can also be converted into complete flat horizontal beds.

Powered by engines from General Electric and Rolls-Royce, the Dreamliner offers a speed of Mach 0.85, while consuming 20% less fuel and delivering 20% fewer emissions over its sized airplanes.

Features of Qatar Airways’ 787 Dreamliner include iTouch control unit, more than 1,000 movies, programming and audio entertainment options, include an iPort, a USB port, remote data outlet, a customised culinary offering and ample storage space.

With a fleet of 109 aircraft, Qatar Airways operates from Doha hub to 116 destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America.

Around five 787s are schedule to be delivered to Qatar Airways during 2012.
