A320-Airbus

Irish aircraft leasing firm Avolon has placed a $1.9bn firm order with Airbus for 20 single-aisle A320neo aeroplanes.

The deal extends Avolon’s initial commitment to acquire 15 A320neo jets, which was announced at the UK’s Farnborough International Airshow in July 2012.

Avolon plans to choose the engine to power its A320neo jetliners at a later date.

Avolon president and chief commercial officer John Higgins said that the increased commitment to the Neo reflected the strong customer feedback the company has received since the original announcement for 15 Neo aircraft in July 2012.

Featuring large Sharklet wing-tip devices, the A320neo is scheduled to enter service in late 2015 and will accommodate up to 180 passengers.

A320neo will offer 15% fuel savings and a double digit reduction in NOx emissions, according to Airbus.
