
China’s Industrial & Commercial Bank (ICBC) leasing arm has placed an order with Airbus for 50 A320 jetliners in a deal worth around $3.5bn.
Signed as part of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s two-day official visit to China, the deal is the first major deal in China for Airbus since disagreements between the country and the European Union over the emissions trading scheme (ETS).

Aimed at improving relations and stimulate business for European firms, the two countries have signed ten further agreements, including one to assemble planes in China.
Powered by either CFM International’s CFM56 or the International Aero Engines V2500, the A320 aircraft line can offers a seating capacity of 150 passengers in a typical two-class arrangement, and around 180 with high-density seating.
The Sharklets on A320 aircraft lessen aerodynamic drag by reducing the spiral-shaped vortices produced at the wingtips of aircraft during flight, while offering 3.5% savings in overall fuel consumption.
Airbus A320 aircraft also incorporate fly-by-wire flight controls, with optimised fuselage expected to enhance passenger revenue with the large cabin within the single-aisle marketplace, and offers increased cargo revenues.

By GlobalDataIn a move to meet the increasing worldwide demand for A320 aircraft, the Toulouse based aircraft manufacturer is planning to boost its output rate to 42 aircraft per month during the fourth quarter of this year.
During Merkel’s visit, both countries also signed agreements in sectors ranging from communication, energy, health and maritime co-operation, among others.
