Century Flight Systems has been awarded supplemental type certificate (STC) from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for installation of its Century 4000 Autopilot in Cessna 182 Skylane series jetliners.

The STC is applicable for the C4000 autopilot in 11 variants of the Cessna 182 Skylane series, including the 182E, 182F, 182G, 182H, and 182J.

In addition, the aircraft with Horton or Robertson STOL are also included in the STC.

"C182 aircraft owners investing in the C4000 will be able to extend the useful life of their aircraft while making their flying safer."

Century Flight Systems president Bill Eubanks said there were significant improvements to be gained by updating ageing aircraft with modern instrumentation and flight control systems.

"Cessna 182s are the backbone of the General Aviation community and have continued to hold their value," Eubanks said.

C4000 autopilot’s standard lateral axis features include heading hold, NAV intercept and track, coupled ILS approaches, sequencing for en-route, terminal and approach segments with compatible GPS receivers providing ARINC 429 steering commands.

In order to provide accurate flight dynamics, C4000 uses digital and analogue circuitry to process position and rate data.

The company stated that it expected to receive certifications for Saratoga PA32-301, 301T, PA32R-301 and 301T aircraft.
