Air Lease chairman and CEO Steven Udvar-Hazy said the 737 MAX would be an addition to the company’s portfolio and complement to its growing fleet of Next-Generation 737-800s.

"The 737 MAX represents a step-change improvement that our airline clients need to compete in the future," Udvar-Hazy added.

A new-engine variant of Boeing’s Next-Generation 737, the 737 MAX is powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines, which the company claims will deliver maximum efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.

According to Boeing, the airplane offers 13% enhanced fuel efficiency over the existing single-aisle airplanes and also provides an 8% operating cost per seat advantage.
